New Orleans Welcomes the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists

AAOP 44th Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium
February 14-17, 2018

A timeless city with a unique way of life, New Orleans is a journey and a celebration. Steeped in European traditions and Caribbean influences, the Big Easy calls curious minds to sweet sounds and savory aromas fueled by three hundred years of history. From the moment you arrive New Orleans will beckon your ears, allure your eyes and enchant your heart. Indulge your senses and explore. We invite you to follow the scent of gumbo floating out the kitchen window, foster a path that leads to the sounds of drums and a Blues guitar, create the route that welcomes you to a historic mansion or a hidden courtyard… We believe that our lagniappe – a little something extra – will stay with you, calling you back to discover the mystery behind our magical city. New Orleans is and will always be a picturesque metropolitan, a culturally rich haven and an authentic experience.

Mardi Gras - Tues, Feb. 13- Travel Suggestions

Mardi Gras is a very festive time for New Orleans as the city comes alive! This is a huge celebration that culminates on Tuesday, February 13 or Fat Tuesday but is celebrated for several days prior. We want you to take advantage of this fabulous opportunity to experience Mardi Gras but please read through the information below so your adventure will be outstanding.

The streets of New Orleans close for parades and this can affect your hotel arrival. When considering your air travel, plan for your plane to arrive 1-2 hours prior to the suggested time below. This way you will be able to gather your luggage and make your way downtown to your hotel before the streets are closed to vehicle traffic.

Sat, Feb. 10: arrive before 1 p.m.
Sun, Feb. 11: arrive before 11 a.m.
Mon, Feb. 12: arrive before 3 p.m.
Tues, Feb. 13: arrive before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m.
Wed, Feb. 14: arrival any time

If you must travel during times outside of what is suggested above, please be prepared to experience street closures. Airport shuttle and taxis will do their best to get you near the host hotels. In addition, please note the French Quarter is closed to all vehicle traffic starting on Fri, Feb. 9 through Tues, Feb. 13, 2018.
