American Meteorological Society Convenes in New Orleans Jan. 20-24

WHAT: American Meteorological Society’s 88th Annual Meeting

WHERE: Morial Convention Center (MCC), Halls A-B and Ballroom I

WHEN: Sunday, Jan. 20-Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008

DETAILS:

The American Meteorological Society promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. Founded in 1919, AMS has a membership of more than 11,000 professionals, professors, students, and weather enthusiasts. AMS publishes nine atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic journals — in print and online — sponsors more than 12 conferences annually, and offers numerous programs and services. Headquartered in Boston, Mass., AMS’ meeting in New Orleans will welcome approximately 2,000 attendees.

  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hurricane Hunters Aircraft available for tours, Sunday, Jan. 20, 12-4 p.m., Million Air Hangar Lakefront Airport. Free and open to the public.
  • Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron’s hurricane hunter aircraft available for tours, Monday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Million Air Hangar Lakefront Airport. Free and open to the public.
  • Plenary session featuring New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin, Monday, Jan. 21, 12 p.m., MCC. Registered attendees only.
  • Presentation by XPrize Founder Peter Diamandis, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 5:15 p.m., MCC. Registered attendees only.
