New Orleans – The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport starts off 2006 with more passenger service.
On January 1, Delta Air Lines increased its level of service to Atlanta by adding 3 additional nonstop roundtrip flights. This brings the number of flights operated by Delta Air Lines to Atlanta to 10 daily round trips, the same frequency as Pre-Katrina. On January 31, Delta will resume service to Salt Lake City with 1 daily round trip. They will also add 1 daily round trip flight to New York’s LaGuardia Airport beginning February 16.** The LaGuardia service will have an introductory fare of $69 one way. In addition to Atlanta, New York and Salt Lake City, Delta also provides regional jet service to Orlando, Washington Regan National, and two roundtrips to their Cincinnati hub.
JetBlue Airways adds a second daily roundtrip January 12 and is offering New Orleans in its Winter Clearance Sale with one way fares as low as $69 to and from New York’s JFK Airport.
Today, January 4, Continental Airlines rounded out it schedule by resuming service to Cleveland Hopkins Airport with 1 daily round trip flight.** This marks the return of service to all three of Continental’s pre-Katrina nonstop markets. Continental operates 12 round trips to Houston’s Intercontinental Airport, the same level as pre-Katrina, 2 flights to Newark and 1 flight to Cleveland. Continental’s new service brings them to approximately 80% of the flights and seats they offered Pre-Katrina.
On January 9, United Airlines will also increase its level of air service at Armstrong International. United will add a second Denver roundtrip and will introduce the first Post-Katrina nonstop flight to the West Coast, when it resumes service to and from Los Angeles International. United will also begin service to two new destinations on February 23 when it offers roundtrip service to San Antonio and Oklahoma City. **
US Airways adds a second Charlotte roundtrip on January 16 and Air Tran Airways adds a third Atlanta roundtrip on February 15.
With these announcements, Armstrong International will have 77 daily round trip flights to 27 destinations on 9 major air carriers. These flights mean that less than six months after Hurricane Katrina, Armstrong has nearly 50% of its Pre-Katrina passenger service.
** All service announced in this press release will be operated with mainline, jet aircraft seating more than 100 passengers except for the Delta service to New York and Salt Lake City, the Continental service to Cleveland and the United service to Oklahoma City and San Antonio. These service additions will use 50 and 70 seat regional jet aircraft.
All passenger service at Armstrong uses jet aircraft.
