NEW ORLEANS – Feb. 27, 2008 – New Orleans Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic will host his inaugural “Charitabowl” fundraiser Friday, March 21, at the All Star Lanes in Kenner, La.
All proceeds from the bowling event will go toward Peja’s “Courts for Kids”, a court refurbishment project in conjunction with Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana that promotes health and fitness education through the game of basketball.
Lane sponsorships start at $1,500 for one lane and $2,500 for two lanes. Each lane includes bowling for four, one celebrity bowler, four bowling shirts, dinner and a special gift bag. Lane sponsors and other corporate sponsorship packages are also available at a variety of price points.
Lane sponsorships and tickets for the Charitabowl can be purchased by calling 504-208-2274 or by visiting www.peja16.com. Individual tickets are $35 for general admission and $100 for VIP access.
Hornets’ players, Honeybee dancers, Hugo and other local celebrities will be at the event. The Charitabowl will also feature a live DJ, photo and autograph opportunities, and a live and silent auction with memorabilia and other distinctive items. Prizes will be given away throughout the evening.
Stojakovic, a three-time NBA All-Star and member of the Hornets since 2006, is dedicated to giving back to the local community. Together with the Hornets organization, he has identified a number of courts in New Orleans to refurbish for local children. His goal is to provide increased opportunities for youth to develop healthy bodies and healthy minds, leadership skills, respect for others and teamwork skills, all while having fun playing basketball.
Peja’s Courts for Kids is a project of the Peja Stojakovic Children’s Foundation with a mission to promote health and fitness education through the
game of basketball. The initiative installs new basketball courts, refurbishes existing ones and distributes basketball equipment in economically disadvantaged areas around the world. Stojakovic formally introduced the program last summer at Qingpu Democracy Migrant School in Shanghai, China, in partnership with former NBA All-Star Vlade Divac.
