NEW ORLEANS, La. (November 2, 2016) - The Orpheum Theater is excited to host Jambalaya, the Musical, by award-winning creator Nancy Gregory, on November 30 at 8:00 p.m. The new musical, making its New Orleans premiere, draws on Gregory's talents and those of other Emmy, Grammy and theater award winners. Additional New Orleans performances will take place December 1, 2, 3 and 21, 22 and 23.

The story of Jambalaya, the Musical is a young man's ‘coming of age' story and, most importantly, a story about love, between a girl and a boy, a man and his grandson, and a community and its love for its rich heritage and culture.

Tickets to see Jambalaya, the Musical at the Orpheum Theater are on sale NOW at and are also available for purchase at the Orpheum Theater box office.

Set on the banks of the lush Louisiana bayou in contemporary times, Jambalaya, the Musical touches two very different generations, each with its own dreams. Boudreaux, an enthusiastic Cajun, guides the story as he introduces the audience to the uniqueness of his Cajun world and the beauty of its people. Most importantly, he hopes that his beloved Cajun culture will not be lost, and dreams that the younger generation will secure the culture's future.

Boudreaux's 22-year-old grandson, T, like most young people, is trying to find his own path. T wants to be a songwriter and is sending his original music to a publisher in Nashville and, the very thing that keeps Boudreaux and ‘T' moving in different directions, ultimately, brings them on the same path, as they defend their culture in unison.

Jambalaya explores the generational pull that most cultures experience: does the younger generation leave their homeland to find a successful life elsewhere, or stay in the familiar surroundings of their own culture? Do the older generations support the desire to move away or hold onto the reins?

Acclaimed writer, director and choreographer Nancy Gregory has created this new work and pulled together a team of luminaries from the entertainment industry. Grammy Award winner and Music Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Barry--known for his long list of Billboard hits, including Be My Baby, River Deep Mountain High, Chapel of Love and Leader of the Pack-is the musical's signature songwriter and is supported with contributions from Grammy-winning producer Clarence Jey, and Louisiana native vocalist Josef Gordon.

Kennard Ramsey, Jambalaya's musical director, has numerous film and television credits, including Lincoln Heights, Knots Landing, Trauma Center, Beverly Hills 90210 and The X-Files.

Joe Stewart, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana and multiple Emmy Award winner (American Music Awards, Friends, the Ellen Degeneres Show, Two and a Half Men, etc.) is Jambalaya's set designer.

Michael R. Shapiro, the project's business manager, is an entertainment attorney who specializes in entertainment, media and communications law. Shapiro's name frequently pops up in association with the long list of high profile artists he has managed, including Fleetwood Mac, Wilson Phillips, Eric Clapton and Steely Dan.

"South Louisiana is so unique," says Gregory. "The enthusiasm of the cast and the terrific response from the workshop audience in Lafayette encouraged my team to continue our pursuit of the potential of Jambalaya and we are very pleased that we'll open at the Orpheum on November 30."

The production has also tapped the talents of Louisiana stage craft professionals, including set builder Matthew Whittle, lighting designer Brian Schneider, costumer Neysha Perry and stage manager Kylen Wijayasuriya.
