1976 was a monumental musical year. Numerous landmark albums were recorded and released including Songs in the Key of Life, Black Market, 2112, Wings at the Speed of Sound, Presence, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, and many more. Doombalaya will join the Nigel Hall Band to celebrate the 40th anniversary of 1976 and present their interpretations of some of these great songs at The Howlin' Wolf New Orleans on Thursday, November 17 at 10pm.

Soul provider Nigel Hall is in many ways an artist who needs no introduction. As a solo artist, he released his debut CD on Feel Music in late 2015. Also, an in-demand sideman, he's built a mighty foundation of funk over the years onstage and in the studio with collaborators including the Warren Haynes Band, Jon Cleary, Soulive, Oteil Burbridge and Roosevelt Collier, Ledisi, the Soul Rebels, Lettuce and countless others. A native of Washington D.C., he is a relatively new resident of one of America's most sonically significant cities, relocating to New Orleans in 2013. In early 2014, a feature in its premier music-focused magazine, Offbeat, enthusiastically welcomed Hall as "a perfect fit" for the vibrant city and its singular culture. The Times-Picayune's review of his solo debut at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival the same year crowned him with a comparison to Southern funk godfather Art Neville.

No musical risk is too extreme; anything is fair game. Simply put, Doombalaya is a wall of sound. Dubbed ‘progressive world beat', their style is a mixture of jazz, Afrobeat, progressive rock, hip hop, traditional music of the world, funk, New Orleans, and all things in between. Arrangements are unpredictable and full of surprises - seamlessly weaving through bizarre time signatures and a variety of feels. The five-man fiery horn line is matched by an eclectic yet cohesive, full rhythm section. Members have done extensive studying around the world (Zambia, St. Lucia, Italian and Dutch conservatories, Ghana, Norway) and look to each culture as inspiration for their sound. Doombalaya was born out of the Tulane jazz program and has evolved their own unique voice through their six-year career. They've played throughout the states but proudly call New Orleans home. Doombalaya released the Doom Rag EP in Spring 2013 and released their album Dinner in November 2013. Doombalaya recently released four singles off their upcoming album, Scratchies, Thumpies, Cold Train Funk and Hot & Bothered, and will release the album in January 2017.
