Sweet Olive String Band brings rural roots music to THNOC on May 19

WHY: The Historic New Orleans Collection's popular outdoor music series Concerts in the Courtyard continues its 10th season Friday, May 19, with a performance from the Sweet Olive String Band. A fun, affordable way to kick off the weekend, the spring series will conclude with a show by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes (Friday, June 16).

Admission is $10, free for THNOC members, and includes three beverages. White wine, craft beer and soft drinks are available at each event. Shows are held at 533 Royal St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; the concerts are 6-8 p.m. THNOC's museum shop and first-floor exhibition galleries will be open during the event. About the band: A New Orleans-based group influenced by southern and rural song styles, the Sweet Olive String Band is known for vocal harmonies reminiscent of the country-brother duets of the 1930s and ‘40s. A four-piece ensemble, the band includes veteran performers Mike Kerwin (guitar and vocals), Pat Flory (mandolin, dobro, guitar and vocals), Rob Schafer (upright bass and vocals) and Jeff Burke (banjo, mandolin, guitar).
