Tuition-Free Dance Classes Available for New Orleans Youth
Nationally Award-Winning NORDC/NOBA Center for Dance & NOBA After-School Programs 
Host Onsite Registrations Beginning August 21 for 2017-18 Academic Year

 

New Orleans, LA (August 3, 2017) - The NORDC/NOBA Center for Dance - a cultural community partnership between the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) and the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) - will hold onsite registrations beginning August 21 for after-school dance classes throughout the Greater New Orleans area for the 2017-18 academic year. Registration will remain open on a first-come, first-served basis through September 22 or until classes are filled. Classes begin the week of September 5 and run through April 2018.

NOBA's nationally award-winning programs provide tuition-free technique classes in ballet, tap, modern, jazz, and hip hop, as well as other styles of dance, movement and conditioning, for youth ages 3 through 18. (Note: Classes offered vary by location.) All classes are approximately one hour, and students are placed in the appropriate class based on both age and experience level. Participants benefit from performance opportunities throughout the year, including fully produced and costumed performances of The Nutcracker Suite at Tulane University's Dixon Hall, winter concerts at each community site, and spring productions. Students and families are also offered $5 tickets to attend select performances during NOBA's Main Stage Season of Dance.

Onsite registration begins on Monday, August 21 from 5-7PM at each of NOBA's seven NORDC partner locations. Registration will also take place on Thursday, August 31 from 5-7PM for NOBA classes held in partnership with the Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center. Interested students are required to submit the following items in person at the time of registration:
1)Completed enrollment application (available at registration)
2)A copy of student's birth certificate for ages 3-6. Students must turn 3-6* by September 1, 2017 and be no older than 18 AND a senior in high school to enroll. PLEASE NOTE: Original documents will NOT be accepted at registration.
3)$5 processing fee (cash only)

2017/18 academic year class schedules, registration dates and locations are as follows:

Rosenwald Rec Center, 1120 N. Broad St. (Central City)
Register on Monday, August 21 from 5-7PM at Rosenwald Rec Center.
Youth ballet classes for ages 5-9 are held on Mondays between 4:30-6:30PM.
Youth jazz dance classes for ages 5-9 are held on Wednesdays between 4:30-6:30PM.

Tremé Recreation Community Center, 900 N. Villere Street (Tremé)
Register on Monday, August 21 from 5-7PM at Tremé Recreation Community Center.
Youth hip hop classes for ages 6-18 are held on Mondays between 5-7PM.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-18 are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 5-7PM.
Youth tap classes for ages 6-18 are held on Wednesdays between 4-6PM.

Behrman Rec Center, 2529 General Meyer Avenue (Algiers)
Register on Tuesday, August 22 from 5-7PM at Behrman Rec Center.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-18 are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4:30-6:30PM.

Stallings St. Claude Rec Center, 4300 St. Claude Avenue (Bywater)
Register on Wednesday, August 23 from 5-7PM at Stallings St. Claude Rec Center.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-11 are held on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4:15-5:15PM.

Cut-Off Rec Center, 6600 Belgrade Street (Westbank)
Register on Wednesday, August 23 from 5-7PM at Cut-Off Rec Center.
Youth tap classes for ages 6-18 are held on Mondays between 5-7PM.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-18 are held on Wednesdays between 5-7PM.

Chevron Studio at Lyons Rec Center, 624 Louisiana Avenue (Uptown)
Register on Thursday, August 24 from 5-7PM at Lyons Rec Center.
Youth modern classes for ages 8-13 are held on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4:15-5:25PM.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-14 are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:40-5:30PM.
Early Childhood classes for ages 3-4 are held on Mondays between 11:45-12:45PM and Saturdays between 9:30-10:15AM.

Joe W. Brown Rec Center, 5601 Read Boulevard (New Orleans East)
Register on Thursday, August 24 from 5-7PM at Joe W. Brown Rec Center.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-18 are held on Mondays and Thursdays between 4:30-6:30PM.

Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center, 3900 General Taylor Street (Broadmoor)
Register on Thursday, August 31 from 5-7PM at Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center.
Youth ballet classes for ages 6-18 are held on Mondays and Thursdays between 4:30-7:30PM.

Since the founding of the partnership in 1992, the NORDC/NOBA Center for Dance has provided more than 50,000 tuition-free dance classes and activities for more than 20,000 participants, garnering national recognition and awards along the way, including the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award by the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.
