The French Market Presents

THE FRENCH MARKET PRESENTS “THE BUMBLING BROTHERS” A NEW JAZZY CHILDREN’S MUSICAL WRITTEN BY DELFEAYO MARSALIS
ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY!!!! SATURDAY AUGUST 29TH AT 5:00 P.M.

New Orleans, LA, August 20, 2009-The French Market is proud to sponsor the presentation of a new children's musical "The Bumbling Brothers Traveling Circus" by Delfeayo Marsalis on August 29th at 5:00 p.m. at The Jazz National Historic Park in Dutch Alley, where Dumaine meets the River . The show, presented by Uptown Music Theatre and directed by Franklin Davis, III, features New Orleans' brightest young stage stars in a jazzy musical featuring 8 original songs, a heap of circus tricks and fun, fun, fun! Guaranteed laughs for the whole family from start to finish, the story centers on the overtaking of "The Greatest Show on This Here Earth" from its founder Bruno Bumbling by upstarts Jack Barnum and Hailey Bailey.

This free performance at the French Market welcomes the public to come down to the Market for an uplifting afternoon on the city's shared symbolic day of hope and renewal. "The focus on our children and their potential is what we want to spotlight on August 29th," says Kenneth Ferdinand, Executive Director of the French Market. "As the city renews itself, we encourage attention and applause for the next generation of New Orleans' musicians and performers."

Uptown Music Theatre (UMT) is known for presenting family-oriented programming with a swinging groove. The mission of UMT is to promote community unity through the tradition of fine storytelling in musical theatre. Since 2000, UMT has staged 13 original productions and trained over 400 of New Orleans' talented students. According to Artistic Director Delfeayo Marsalis, "By sharing stories through theater, dance, and music, we strive to bring healing to the New Orleans community. Jazz based and downright silly, our shows are about celebration."

Delfeayo Marsalis has enjoyed success as a trombonist, producer and music educator for many years. He has composed original works for "Meet the Composer," the Detroit and Minneapolis Symphonies and has lectured in public and parochial schools on behalf of both the Dallas Opera and the Bravo cable network. Delfeayo has produced over 100 major recordings and film scores, which have garnered one Grammy award and several nominations. His original educational programs, which have been implemented in three New Orleans schools and Children's Hospital include "Kidstown AfterSchool" and "Swinging with the Cool School."
