New Orleans Photo Alliance PresentsThe American Dream

New Orleans, LA-January 11, 2010-The New Orleans Photo Alliance is proud to present a national juried exhibit, “The American Dream”, juried by 2005 Guggenheim and 2000 MacArthur Fellow, Deborah Willis. Dr. Deborah Willis, a professor at New York University is also a professional art photographer and one of the nation’s leading historians of African American photography. She is the author of numerous books including the critically acclaimed, The Black Female Body: A Photographic History with Carla Williams (Temple University Press, Philadelphia, 2002) and the upcoming Michelle Obama: The First Lady in Photographs.

--What does the American Dream look like? How is it now defined? Has it been realized?--

“…These are the three questions that I explored as I looked at the photographic works submitted to The New Orleans Photo Alliance call for The American Dream. I realized early on that the visual response to the questions was not a monolithic vision but one that explored ideas about notions of home, family, work, religion, as well as the land. The images in this exhibition challenge ideas about dreaming in and about America…”--Deborah Willis, New York University

Photographers featured in the exhibit include Roman Alokhin, Jeremiah Ariaz, David Armentor, Letitia Huckaby, Kevin Kline, René Merino and Leslie Parr.

The exhibition dates are: February 4, 2010- March 21, 2010

Opening reception: Thursday, February 4, 6-9pm

Juror’s reception: Saturday, February 27, 6-9pm
