2011 Joint Mathematics Meetings Convene in New Orleans January 6-9
The American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA)
return to New Orleans
WHAT: AMS and MAA Joint Mathematics Meetings
WHERE: New Orleans Marriott and Sheraton New Orleans
WHEN: January 6-9, 2011
DETAILS: AMS and MAA convene in New Orleans January 6-9 for the 2011 Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM), the largest annual mathematics meeting in the world. This will be the 117th annual meeting for AMS and the 94th annual winter meeting of MAA. More than 6,000 mathematicians will attend the meetings and discuss all fields of mathematics through panels and exhibits, with topics ranging from the economy, health and medicine, the BP Oil spill and education.
AMS is an association of professional mathematicians dedicated to the interests of mathematical research and scholarship, which it does with various publications and conferences as well as annual monetary awards and prizes to mathematicians. MAA is the largest professional society that focuses on mathematics accessible at the undergraduate level. JMM is held for the purpose of advancing mathematical achievement, encouraging research, and providing the communication necessary to progress in the field.
The last meeting held in New Orleans in 2007 reached record-high attendance numbers. This year is expected to be even larger, and is set to generate millions of dollars in economic impact.
