Nearly 2,000 student athletes to be “in action” at Tad Gormley Stadium

DETAILS: The Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic returns to Tad Gormley Stadium on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26, with nearly 2,000 student athletes from six states slated to compete in the two-day event. Since 1993, this event has been the largest high school track and field invitational in Louisiana, featuring more than 100 boys and girls teams from throughout the Southeast. Championship rounds for most key sprinting and running events will begin at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday. The team champions will be announced at approximately 3 p.m.
Metro New Orleans schools with student-athletes “in action” last year included: Ben Franklin, Bonnabel, Cabrini, Carver, Chapelle, Cohen, Desire Street Academy, Douglass, East St. John, Ellender, Grace King, Helen Cox, Higgins, Holy Cross, Jesuit, John Curtis, John Ehret, John McDonogh, Karr, Lusher, Mandeville, McDonogh #35, McMain, Metairie Park Country Day, Mt. Carmel, Newman, Northshore, Sacred Heart, St. Augustine, St. Mary’s, Ursuline, West Jefferson and Xavier Prep.
The 2010 Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic affirmed itself as one of the premier high school track events in the Southeast. Last year’s event saw multiple meet records established along with numerous crowd-rousing performances which ranked on a national level.
