Roots of Music Sign Agreement to Continue Rehearsal at Louisiana State Museum
May 5, 2011-Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing the signing of a cooperative endeavor agreement between the Louisiana State Museum and Roots of Music, an after school education program for K-12 students. The program targets at-risk youths from schools in New Orleans.
The agreement extends the current contract to provide the music program rehearsal space Mondays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The spaces provided to the program are the Jackson House and the Cabildo courtyard kitchen.
The Roots of Music agree to provide future programming at the Old U.S. Mint, a Louisiana State Museum property. Programming could include live performances and recording session. Louisiana State Museum has an internationally-known jazz collection—the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the world. The Old U.S. Mint is currently being renovated in order to install an exhibit chronicling the rich history of music in Louisiana. As part of a partnership with the U.S. Department of the Interior, the museum will also house a music performance venue.
