Make A Splash for Kingsley House!

NEW ORLEANS, LA (May 11, 2011) – Kingsley House will host its inaugural Make A Splash event on Friday, June 3rd from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Kingsley House. Kingsley House is proud to have Wendell Pierce of the HBO series Treme as an Honorary Chair. All proceeds will benefit Kingsley House’s Summer Camp and repairs to their swimming pool.

The theme of the evening is “tropical fun” with entertainment by Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, tropical themed food sponsored by Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, Palace Café and Bourbon House and island inspired cocktails and libations sponsored by City Wholesale Liquor Company Inc., Cruzan Rum and Glazer’s Companies of Louisiana. Music, dancing, limbo contests and a silent auction will add to the fun!

Since 1896 Kingsley House has served more than half a million people in Southeast Louisiana. Today Kingsley House serves more than 6,000 individuals annually through their nationally accredited and state-certified programs including its historic Summer Camp program. Summer Camp is an 8 week full day camp that serves more than 200 children in the community each year. Before Hurricane Katrina, Summer Camp included access to Kingsley House’s junior Olympic size swimming pool which is now in disrepair. The pool was constructed in the 1950s and not only has significance to Kingsley House but to the entire New Orleans community. This pool was the first integrated swimming pool in New Orleans. During the Civil Rights Movement, the city threatened to shut down the pool but Kingsley House remained open, showing the community the importance of equality for everyone.

Additional sponsors for event include: Bellwether Technology Corporation, Community Coffee, Strike It Green Props, Whitney Bank and Valero.

Tickets are $50. A $75 VIP ticket includes an additional hour of music, food and libations from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call Gina Jackson at 504-523-6221 ext. 127 or email gjackson@kingsleyhouse.org.
