Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans Wins Top Management Company Awards for 2010
Award is most recent in a growing list of accolades for New Orleans Hotel
NEW ORLEANS, LA, May 20, 2011 – The Astor Crowne Plaza, one of the anchors of Canal Street (the city’s premier business corridor) and the downtown New Orleans hospitality industry, recently received five out of the eight top company awards presented during Hospitality Management Corporation’s Annual General Managers’ Conference in Austin, Texas. The Astor Crowne Plaza was considered for the 2010 Outstanding Achievement Awards from a portfolio of 21 hotels across the company managed by the Dallas-based HMC.
Awards presented to the Astor Crowne Plaza were:
· Highest Growth in RevPar Percentage
· Highest Actual RevPar Achievement
· Greatest IBFC Growth(Income before Fixed Charges)
· Highest Percentage of Growth in Overall Hotel Revenue
· Full-Service Hotel of the Year
Accepting the award on behalf of the Astor Crowne Plaza was the hotel’s General Manager, Peter Ambros. “It is always a pleasure to accept an award for the Astor Crowne Plaza, especially because I accept it on behalf of our associates,” said Ambros. “It is they who make our hotel the exceptional place it is, not only as an HMC property, but also as a testimonial from our guests,” he added.
In February 2010, Meeting Planners across the country ranked The Astor Crowne Plaza, a leader in the downtown New Orleans hospitality industry, 1st out of over 150 Crowne Plaza hotels in a survey conducted by Intercontinental Hotels Group in January 2010.
The Astor Crowne Plaza also received the prestigious Renovation Award at the InterContinental Hotels Group’s 2009 Americas Investors & Leadership Conference held in Washington DC, November 2009. The Astor Crowne Plaza was considered for the award from an IHG’s portfolio of over 4,300 hotels.
This renovation touched every aspect of the hotel. The lobby’s grand corridor has a new look with new furnishings refurbished in a floral palette of greens, citron and earth tones, keeping the traditional flair, yet adding modern components. The extensive updating of guestrooms is “all about Astor Crowne Plaza comfort,” including the Brand’s existing Sleep Advantage™ bedding. All guestrooms and suites have received new furnishings, wall coverings, drapes, and furniture in keeping with the hotel’s traditional style but with a sleeker appeal in a combination of rich soothing colors, textures and styles. The final stage of the hotel’s renovation has begun with the addition of 36” HD Flat Screen televisions and an all new bedding package for all guest rooms.
The Executive Lounge on the hotel’s Club Level floor has been enlarged to double its size to provide privileged guests a view of the city’s comings and goings along famed Bourbon Street. As well, the Fitness Center has been expanded to twice its size with all new equipment. The exciting news for the hotel is the addition of three new meeting rooms with 700 sq. ft. each on the 2nd floor mezzanine level which has expanded the facilities to 32,000 sq. ft. Classic is the theme for all meeting space, which includes new wall coverings, carpeting, and furnishings. All meeting rooms and ballrooms have custom designed carpeting with traditional hues of blacks, reds, gold and touches of tan.
