June 13, 2011 New Orleans, LA

Audubon Park Golf Course in New Orleans is ranked among the best municipal courses in the country, according to an article in Golfweek Magazine’s May 13, 2011, issue.

Audubon Park Golf Course made the list of Golfweek’s best for the first time ever, ranking 40 out of the 50 top courses.

At the same time, readers of New Orleans’ The Times Picayune rated Audubon Park Golf Course the best course in the city. The readers’ poll results were published in the June 3, 2011, issue of Lagniappe, the arts and entertainment supplement of The Times Picayune.

“We’ve known for some time how enjoyable and challenging it is to play this course,” said Audubon golf pro Stan Stopa. “It’s always nice to see others agree!”

The golf course combines more than one hundred years of history with the latest in golf course design from Dennis Griffiths featuring contoured Bermuda fairways, manicured Tif-Eagle greens, four lagoons and exquisite landscaping. The competitive, executive-18-hole course is a par 62, 4,220-yard layout set among hundred year-old oak trees that includes 12 par 3s, four par 4s, and two par 5s.

Strategically placed lagoons add difficulty to a course that received a 4-and-a-half star rating from Golf Digest. The magazine also voted Audubon one of the top public courses in Louisiana and was No. 1 in the category of "Courses Over 100 Years Old."

Audubon Park opened in 1898 and was the site of the 1884 World's Fair. Audubon Park Golf Course was the first property in the state of Louisiana to achieve certification through the Audubon International Signature Program and was designated as a Certified Silver Signature Sanctuary on July 22, 2004. The golf course was redesigned in 2001 and quickly became one of Southeast Louisiana's most prestigious golfing destinations.
