THE ROOSEVELT CELEBRATES THE BIRTH OF FAMED LOUISIANA GOVERNOR AND FREQUENT HOTEL GUEST HUEY P. LONG
WHO: The Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria hotel
WHAT: “Seersucker & Fizz Friday,” a celebration in honor of famed Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long’s birthday and the Ramos Gin Fizz that he made popular
WHEN: Friday, August 26, 1 p.m. ‘til
WHERE: Sazerac Restaurant & Bar (located inside The Roosevelt New Orleans Hotel)
The Roosevelt New Orleans will celebrate the birth of the “Kingfish” with two of his favorite things: Ramos Gin Fizz cocktails and seersucker.
The celebration will include a variety of specially flavored Ramos Gin Fizz cocktails priced at just $8.30 (normally $13), in honor of his birthday August 30 or 8/30. A special three-course menu also will be available inside the Sazerac Restaurant, beginning at 1 p.m.
Rumor has it that Long flew a bartender from the Sazerac Bar to New York to teach other bartenders how to make the cocktail to his liking. Long was born on Aug. 30, 1893, so this would have been the 118th birthday of the flamboyant former governor, who influenced presidential politics of pre-World War II America.
Guests are encouraged to dress in seersucker. Complimentary valet parking is available for those who dine at the Sazerac Restaurant. For lunch reservations, call (504) 648-5486.
