National Athletic Trainers’ Association Convenes in New Orleans June 20-22

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 17, 2011

National Athletic Trainers’ Association Convenes in New Orleans June 20-22
Sessions centered around injury prevention

WHAT: 62nd Annual National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Meeting and Clinical Symposia

WHERE: New Orleans Morial Convention Center (MCCNO), Halls A-D

WHEN: June 20-22, 2011

DETAILS:
The MCCNO will be hosting athletic trainers June 20-22 for the NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia. This meeting showcases new advances in technology and research, clinics for new medical techniques and a 300-vendor trade show exhibiting the latest in training equipment, services and support.

At a national press conference on Monday, June 20, NATA will announce its position statement on safe weight loss and maintenance practices in exercise and sport. This statement presents weight loss goals and recommendations to athletic trainers and other medical professionals and also informs coaches and parents of ways to work with athletes or active individuals to help them achieve healthy weight loss or maintenance goals. The statement will be published in the June 2011 issue of the Journal of Athletic Training.

Many break-out sessions share new research or methods in preventing sport-induced injuries in young athletes. One session will analyze the protection of different sport helmets (football, hockey and lacrosse), while another session reveals findings of a hydration study.
