Armstrong International Airport Opens Six Gate Concourse D Expansion
October 27, 2011 (New Orleans, LA) Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport hosted the official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Concourse D Expansion today at 11 a.m.
The Concourse D Expansion was designed by Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects of New Orleans and built by The McDonnell Group, LLC of Metairie. The expansion adds 6 airline gates in an open rotunda style format, doubling the capacity of the concourse. The project includes space for food and beverage outlets, retail outlets and additional restrooms.
"We are pleased with the completion of this addition to Concourse D", said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "These enhancements will make a great impression on our traveling public, especially in light of the unprecedented series of international events in the city over the next 18 months."
"This project is one of the first visible steps in the completion of our three hundred million dollar capital program to update the look and feel of this facility to be more welcoming to our citizens and visitors," stated Iftikhar Ahmad, Director of Aviation.
The project cost $27 million which includes design fees, construction costs, and other services.
