Jazz Underground series continues with bassist Roland Guerin

Roland Guerin, a versatile, in-demand bassist who frequently tours and performs with Allen Toussaint, will continue Loyola University New Orleans' Jazz Underground series with music from his most recent CD, "A Different World," on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Satchmo's, located in the basement of the Danna Student Center on the university's main campus.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for Loyola faculty and staff, and free for Loyola students. Tickets are available online at http://www.montage.loyno.edu/ or by calling 504-865-2074, and will also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to the performance. Free parking is available in the West Road Garag, which is accessible from St. Charles Avenue.

Guerin made his debut as a bandleader in 1998, and has since released five successful albums featuring his own, forward-thinking style. His most recent release, "A Different World," touts a melodic brand of smooth jazz fusion and lush arrangements, and features other acclaimed artists, Terrence Higgins on drums, Mike Esneault on piano, Khris Royal and Dennis Williams on saxophone, Shane Theriot on guitar and Bill Summers on percussion.

Guerin studied at Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he joined legendary jazz educator Alvin Batiste's band, the Jazztronauts. He later toured the world as a member of jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield's band. During that time, he explored the jazz genre, performing with such greats as George Benson, Jimmy Scott and Vernel Fournier, among many others.

Guerin also participated in the recording of several albums with other artists including Ellis Marsalis, Marcus Roberts and Allen Toussaint. In 2002, as a member of the Marcus Roberts Trio, he performed at the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
