DETAILS: More than 10,000
nurses and professionals in the perioperative profession are expected to attend
the AORN annual Congress, which combines more than 100 education sessions with
networking and career-building opportunities. Speakers include Don Berwick, MD,
the United States' leading advocate for high-quality health care, former
administrator for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and
founding CEO for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
The association's concurrent trade show is the
largest surgical products trade show in the United States. Surgical products are
presented by more than 500 exhibitors and include instruments and devices for
the attending nurses' use in the operating room.
AORN represents the interests of more than
160,000 perioperative nurses by providing nursing education, standards and
practice resources-including the peer-reviewed, monthly publication AORN
Journal-to enable optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and
other invasive procedures. AORN's 41,000 registered nurse members manage, teach
and practice perioperative nursing, are enrolled in nursing education or are
engaged in perioperative research.
The last time AORN met in New Orleans was in
2005, with plans to return in 2018, 2022 and 2026.
