Algiers Economic Development Foundation Announces Headliners
for its 5th Annual "Wednesday's on the Point" Summer Concert Series
Weekly series adds a Kid's Zone in addition to its diverse
musical schedule
NEW ORLEANS - The Algiers
Economic Development Foundation (AEDF) announces the line up for the 5th annual
Wednesdays on the Point
riverfront festival series on Wednesday, May 16,
at the site of its weekly summer concerts. This year's series includes shows every Wednesday, June 6-July 25,
from 6 to 9 p.m. All concerts take place at 200
Morgan Street where the Algiers Ferry Terminal meets the levee. A special 4th of July concert
will return for it's second year entertaining guests from 5 to 9 p.m. prior to the riverboat fireworks
extravaganza on the Mississippi
River.
Wednesdays on the
Point began four years ago in an effort to draw
visitors to Algiers Point during the slow summer months. Since its inception,
the series has grown exponentially and is expected to draw more than one
thousand guests to the banks of the Mississippi River each week. Each
Wednesday on the
Point concert is free to attend, offering live
music, local cuisine and activities for the entire family.
This year
AEDF announces the addition of a Kid's Zone that features an inflatable
basketball shooting area, a face painter and kids cuisine. The Kid's Zone is
sponsored in part by the recently opened Bounce-D-Lis inflatable kids playground
located in Algiers, New Orleans. Say's AEDF President Chris Kane, "Wednesday's
on the Point is an important catalyst for local small business, which has
yielded over $500,000 in economic impact in the Algiers community. We encourage
everyone to come experience this new "New Orleans" tradition on the
River."
Each year AEDF strives to highlight the cultural diversity of New
Orleans through the musical curating of the band line up. This year is no
different as the schedule features music from Cajun & Zydeco artists to
Funk, Blues and Mardi Gras Indians. One thing remains the same and that is that
Cajun Rocker Amanda Shaw will again headline the finale show of the summer
series. Says Shaw. "I am so excited to be back at The Point this year! I love
playing the series because families can come out and enjoy great food and dance
to great music. And its free... it doesn't get better than that!"
"Guests to New Orleans
have come as far as Europe to enjoy our summer series. It's the only weekly
cultural music series of its kind in New Orleans." Says AEDF Executive Director
Barbara Waiters. "Both Algiers businesses and guests benefit from having a
weekly concert especially during the slower summer months."
