Hotel Monteleone Bids Farewell to Hospitality Legend Andrea Thornton

New Orleans, LA (June 18, 2012) - Andrea Thornton, CMP, renowned throughout the New Orleans hospitality industry for her professionalism and dedication, has stepped away from her long-time position as director of sales and marketing at the historic Hotel Monteleone, retiring effective May 31.

Throughout her more than 35 years in the industry, Thornton developed a legendary reputation for innovation, embracing technology and mentoring, along with forging partnerships with local companies to create events. In her role as director of sales and marketing, Thornton oversaw the sales, marketing, reservations, catering and conference service departments of the hotel.

"We are honored to have had Andrea on our team all these years," said Ronald Pincus, vice-president and chief operating officer of Hotel Monteleone. "Her outstanding service to Hotel Monteleone and the hospitality industry in general will be sorely missed. We wish her nothing but the best as she embarks on this next chapter of her life."

Thornton has received a number of honors and awards, including the President's Award from Meeting Planners International, the Woman of the Year award from New Orleans CityBusiness, the Silver Plume award from Where Magazine and the Hats Off Award from the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Under her guidance, Hotel Monteleone received awards from Fodor's, AAA Southern Traveler, Zagat, Successful Meetings, and many others, including Expedia Insider's Select, which chose Hotel Monteleone as one of the world's top 1% of hotels.

Thornton makes no secret of her affection for the newly-renovated Carousel Bar & Lounge at the Hotel Monteleone, and is proud of her yearlong efforts celebrating the Hotel's 125th anniversary, which included the 84th birthday of former Governor Edwin Edwards and the dedication of the Carousel Bar & Lounge to music greats Allen Toussaint, Louis Prima, Dr. John, Etta James, Pete Fountain and Liberace (in memoriam).

"I'm grateful for the chance to have worked with such a wonderful group of professionals all these years," said Thornton. "No one could have asked for a more rewarding association. My heart will always be here with the Hotel Monteleone."

Thornton also operated Tours by Andrea, a Destination Management Company, for ten years. She was general manager of Travel New Orleans and also worked in the hotel business in Biloxi and Orlando. She has served on numerous industry professional boards, and is accredited as a Certified Meeting Professional.
