Algiers Economic Development Foundation Announces Free Wednesdays on the Point 4th of July Concert
Holiday concert to precede Riverboat fireworks display on the Mississippi Riverfront

NEW ORLEANS - The Algiers Economic Development Foundation (AEDF) announces it's free 4th of July concert as part of the its Wednesdays on the Point Summer Riverfront Concert Series. The 4th of July concert is scheduled for this Wednesday from 5-9PM on the levee adjacent to the Algiers Ferry Terminal. The event highlights the cultural heritage of New Orleans through it's free concerts by local musicians and traditional cuisine of the city.

The schedule of musical acts for the 4th of July show includes "Romy Kaye and the Brent Walsh Jazz Trio" from 5-6PM, "Zena Moses and the Rue Fiya Allstars" from 6:15-7:15PM and New Orleans own "Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes" from 7:30-9PM. The concert will conclude just prior the annual dueling barge fireworks display on the Mississippi River at 9PM. The riverfront site offers one of the best viewing locations for the annual holiday celebration with the downtown skyline as a backdrop for the first ever AEDF sponsored holiday 4th of July concert.

This year highlights the addition of a Kid's Zone with inflatables, face painters, kids cuisine and more. The festival will also feature cuisine from local vendors and a variety of beverages sold as part of the summer fundraiser for Algiers Economic Development Foundation. The weekly concerts will resume next Wednesday, July 11, with George Porter Jr & his Runnin Pardners and Sound Man Presents.

Guests and locals in downtown New Orleans may board the free ferry leaving from the Canal Street terminal arriving to the Algiers Point festival location. Ferry's run every fifteen minutes between Algiers Point and Downtown New Orleans.

For more information about AEDF's Wednesdays on the Point please contact Bethany Lemanski at (504) 339-2899 or visit www.WednesdaysOnThePoint.com

Wednesdays on the Point began five years ago in an effort to draw visitors to Algiers Point during the slow summer months. Since its inception, the series has grown exponentially and is expected to draw more than one thousand guests each week. This year's lineup includes various musicians and bands including Amanda Shaw, Brass-A-Holic's "Go-Go Funk" Band, Sunpie Barnes and the Louisiana Sunspots and Chief Bo Dolis Jr. and the Wild Magnolia's Mardi Gras Indians.

Founded in 1719, Algiers Point is one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans. "The Point" as locals call it, is located directly across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter.

Algiers Economic Development Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing economic development to Algiers. The mission of AEDF is to help the Algiers community grow and prosper by being a catalyst for economic development that provides for a vibrant business environment.
