New Orleans Auction Galleries Announces First Auction Under New Ownership
More Than 1,700 Lots To Be Auctioned, July 27 - 29

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - July 17, 2012 - New Orleans Auction Galleries today announced the dates for its July auction, the first under its new ownership. With more than 1,700 lots slated for auction, including fine antiques, art, estate jewelry and more, the auction will take place over a period of three days, as follows:

  • Friday, July 27, 12 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 28, 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 29, 11 a.m.

Guests are welcome to view the exhibition lots at the Gallery, located at 510 Julia Street, July 17 - 27, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. excluding Sunday, July 22. In addition, the Preview Party is scheduled for Thursday, July 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"We want the public to know that New Orleans Auctions Galleries is here and ready for business. We have been looking forward to the July auction for quite some time. Both the quantity and quality of the items up for auction have exceeded our expectations," said New Orleans Auction Galleries CEO and owner, Susan D. Krohn. "In fact, we decided to add an additional day to the upcoming auction in order to include all of the items we have been receiving from consignors from across the country." Last month, Cakebread Art Antiques Collectibles owner, Susan D. Krohn, purchased the assets of the company.

Among the items to be auctioned will be:

  • A sterling silver 1926 Times-Picayune Loving Cup presented to William Jennings Warrington, a philanthropist famed for assisting hundreds of thousands of New Orleanians during the height of the Great Depression, which is a highlight of a substantial number of antique silver items.
  • An acrylic on masonite "Water in a Rice Field" by Elemore Morgan, Jr., recognized as a leading contemporary Louisiana landscape painter.
  • A notable North Carolina Federal mahogany Pembroke table ca. 1800 with a defining stamp by Samuel Parmele of New York and Wilmington, North Carolina.
  • Glass, porcelain, and silver dining wares from the collection of Philip Plaisance, former chef at Oxbow in St. Francisville, LA.
  • Three exceedingly rare George Rodrigue pieces:
  • o A cameo glass limited edition (15/35) etched and numbered "Blue Dog" bowl
  • o "Evangeline Standing" signed bronze
  • o A 1989 signed and framed "Hank Williams" oil on canvas
  • A spectacular sapphire, diamond and pearl choker, ca. 1920's from Dr. Mildred Christian's estate, a world renowned toxicologist and the first female President of the Toxicology Association.

"We are enthusiastic to invite buyers to the auction," said Ashton Thomas, president of New Orleans Auction Galleries. "With the incredible array of items up for auction and the strong interest that we have already seen, we are confident New Orleans Auction Galleries' first auction under new ownership will be a great success."

Recognized as the premier auction house in the American South, New Orleans Auction Galleries is devoted to providing the finest antiques, art, estate jewelry, carpets and silver to bidders locally, nationally and around the world. New Orleans Auction Galleries is located at 510 Julia Street in the heart of New Orleans' Warehouse and Arts District.
