4th Annual Magazine Street Blues Festival to Feature Top Local Bands, Cuisine, Artists and Kids' Games and Activities
Saturday, November 17, 2012 (rain date November 18, 2012)

NEW ORLEANS -September 7, 2012- The 4th annual Magazine Street Blues Festival, sponsored by and benefiting COPS 2, announces its 2012 schedule of events. Top local acts such as Rockin Dopsie and the Zydeco Twisters will perform this year.

Festival-goers can enjoy New Orleans cuisine from favorite local street food vendors. Those scheduled to attend include all proceeds from the festival will benefit the COPS 2 Organization.

Additionally, there will be an artist's village featuring talented local artists displaying and selling their original pieces and art works. There will be original jewelry designs, hand painted clothing and accessories, water colors, photography, stained glass and many more.

Children of all ages are welcome to enjoy games and activities, win prizes, have their faces painted and enjoy kid friendly food.

The free festival takes place on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the intersection of Magazine and Napoleon streets in uptown New Orleans.

Sponsors of the Magazine Street Blues Festival include: Southern Eagle (Anheuser Busch), The Azby Fund, Members and Friends of COPS 2 and many residents and businesses in the Second District.

The goal of this event is three-fold:

  • First, to bring the citizens and businesses of the 2nd District together and enjoy a weekend of food, music and art along with your officers.
  • Second, is to help us establish a Dedicated Fund for the men and women of the district to hold professional seminars that will focus on education, investigational training, street survival, crime scene, etc. and other issues that will make us better able to serve the public.
  • Third, is to highlight Magazine Street and its importance of commerce to the city and its history as it runs through the heart of our district.

The main focus is to create a better working relationship with the citizens of the city and an understanding of the hurdles that we all face as we rebuild it. The money raised from this event will be used to bring professionals from around the nation and locally to assist in training officers to better deal with job related stress and professionalism within their jobs. Additionally, seminars will be offered to help citizens and business owners to better understand the stress and complexities of being a police officer in today's New Orleans.

The 2nd District is demographically unique to our city and we want everyone to be a part of our success and helps bring the citizens and the officers that are dedicated to serving and protecting them together in a fun, family environment.

COPS 2 Mission statement: COPS 2 exists to provide support for the officers of the NOPD Second District. We accomplish this in three ways:

Recognition: We express community appreciation for the officers that serve the Second District.
Partnership: We work with Second District officers to determine ways to improve the quality of their working lives.
Involvement: We strive to involve the larger Second District community to achieve our mission.

COPS 2 is a 501(c)(3) Organization
