The Blake Hotel New Orleans Joins Ascend Hotel Collection

New Orleans (Aug. 2012) -The Blake Hotel New Orleans opened its doors this month as the newest addition to the Ascend Hotel Collection membership program from Choice Hotels International.

The 122-room boutique hotel is close to the action, on the St. Charles Streetcar Line at Lafayette Square in the downtown Business and Arts Districts. Guests in town for Mardi Gras can watch the parades passing right in front of the hotel. The French Quarter, Ernest Morial Convention Center, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Harrah's Casino and some of New Orleans' top restaurants and shopping are all within walking distance.

The Blake is the first New Orleans hotel to join this fast-growing network of 72 upscale, independent hotels, each with a different personality reflecting its locale. As part of this eclectic portfolio, The Blake maintains its independent brand identity. At the same time, the property gains access to the global sales and marketing channels of one of the world's largest hospitality companies. Among the benefits, The Blake enjoys visibility before a network of more than 15 million Choice Privileges rewards members worldwide. It also acquires a presence on ChoiceHotels.com, one of the hospitality industry's most visited websites.

"With is luxurious accommodations and gracious hospitality, The Blake is the perfect hotel for our debut in New Orleans," says Stacy Ragland, vice president, Ascend Hotel Collection. "This beautiful property boasts the ideal design and location for travelers who want to live like the locals while exploring one of America's most vibrant cities."

The Blake is owned by JM Hotels, LLC and managed by New Orleans based Matrix Hospitality Group.

At Home in The Big Easy
Through November 30, rates at The Blake start at $99 per night. Housed in the elegant former Bank of New Orleans building, the 11-story hotel has just completed a 10-month renovation that has transformed nearly every aspect of the property. The Blake now houses a full-service restaurant and bar, two meeting rooms with a balcony, a lobby business center, fitness center and sundries shop.

The hotel lobby features a sleek and luxurious design. Refurbished floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around the entire building, making the lobby the perfect vantage point from which to watch the ongoing parade of New Orleans personalities passing through the neighborhood. Lobby floors and walls are paved in cream-colored travertine, with punches of color from a 12-by-9-foot, strawberry-red faux alligator skin behind the front desk. Guests gather in the lobby on plush chairs and a bold red semi-circular sofa. There's bar service here as well as three computer workstations, free Wi-Fi and a large TV for guests who want to stay connected.

Just off the lobby, the full-service Café at the Square serves up rich city views and traditional Louisiana comfort food. Try the Andouille sausage benedict and fried green tomatoes topped off with homemade bread pudding with bourbon sauce.

Almost every guestroom features floor-to-ceiling windows too, affording beautiful views of the storied city. Rooms invite relaxation with warm Manhattan Cherry Finish furnishings and a soothing neutral color palette of taupes, creams and browns with pops of color from green and orange pillows and throws and rich golden-tone drapes. For a peaceful night's sleep, beds feature pillow-top mattresses dressed up with crisp white linens. Among the other comforts: free Wi-Fi and a large flat-screen TV. Some rooms also are equipped with mini-fridges.  Adding to the luxe comfort are elegant new bathrooms with marble floors, massage showerheads and expansive mahogany vanities.

On the second floor, two meeting rooms have a combined 2,000 square feet of space and a balcony, which wraps around the building in traditional New Orleans style. The Blake also is home to a state-of-the-art fitness center with cardio and weight training machines, four 42-inch flat screen televisions, and a window wall, providing views of the business district to gym-goers.

Live Like a NOLA Local
The Blake borders Lafayette Square - one of New Orleans' oldest parks.  This prime downtown location puts guests just four blocks from the famous French Quarter. Get a taste of the Big Easy's iconic nightlife and culinary scene. Also nearby are other popular attractions like the Superdome, Shops at Canal Place and the National World War II Museum. Just five minutes from the hotel, Harrah's Casino offers poker, table games and slots. For a more family-friendly outing, the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, five minutes away, features more than 15,000 sea creatures in a state-of-the-art facility, including the rare white alligator, considered good luck according to Cajun lore.
