First Annual Blues in da Parish Festival Celebrates Louisiana Blues Music

New Orleans, LA , October 12, 2012 - The first annual Blues in da Parish Festival will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Docville Farm, 5124 E St Bernard Hwy in Violet, Louisiana. This year's free event will feature 7 hours of continuous live performances including some of today's best Louisiana blues musicians.

The festivities will begin at noon with a welcome from Voodoo Blues Krewe/New Orleans Blues Society President Kerry Poche Sr. Then the music will get started with the local Chalmette High School Band taking the stage, followed by The Dana Abbott Band at 1 p.m.

The entertainment will continue with Mike Darby and the House of Cards at 2 p.m, then 30x90 Blueswomen at 3 p.m., Lil Red & Big Bad at 4 p.m, and Kenny Acosta at 5 p.m. And the final performance by Jonathon Long and Blues Revolution will begin at 5:30 and continue through the end of the festival at 7 p.m.

Blues in da Parish Festival organizers are impressed with the quality of the talent being featured in the 2012 performance lineup. "I'm excited about this inaugural event and hope folks will come out and enjoy Docville farm and quality blues music," said Chris Haines of the Arlene and Joseph Meraux Foundation.

And no Louisiana Festival would be complete without food! This year the Blues in da Parish Festival is inviting local school teams and clubs, church groups and civic organizations to serve up some tasty treats at the Festival as part of their fall fundraising efforts. "We see this Festival as a way to benefit the St Bernard community as a whole," explained Iray Nabatoff of the Community Center of St Bernard. "Blues in da Parish Festival attendees will enjoy some great food while knowing that they're supporting youth activities, educational programs, and other important causes."

In addition to good food and talented musicians, this year's Blues in da Parish Festival will also feature some family-friendly fun including a 50-50 raffle along with free toys, candy, and stickers for the kids. The first annual Blues in da Parish Festival is being sponsored by The Meraux Foundation, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation, Voodoo Blues Krewe/New Orleans Blues Society, The St Bernard Parish Post, Sign Express Outlet and the Community Center of St Bernard.
