WHEN: Thursday, October 25 at 8 a.m.

October 24, 2012 -- New Orleans, LA -- Approximately 250 residents and families in Jefferson Parish can look forward to savings on their energy bills thanks to a partnership between Green Light New Orleans and Entergy Louisiana. Green Light New Orleans will host and organize an Entergy-sponsored energy-efficiency event that will reach out to pre-selected residents on both the east and west banks of Jefferson Parish.

As part of a month of Entergy volunteerism events focused on the environment and energy efficiency, more than 50 Entergy employees will replace traditional incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). In support of Green Light's Free Energy-Efficient Light Bulb Program, Entergy is donating 5,000 light bulbs to be installed in about 250 homes. Thanks to Entergy's generous support, Green Light clients in Jefferson Parish will save 1,970,000 kwh of electricity over the lifetime of the bulbs that will reduce their utility bills by $230,000 and prevent 2,235,000 pounds of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

Entergy and Green Light have a long-standing relationship. Green Light Founder and Executive Director Andreas Hoffmann explains, "Entergy has been a major supporter of Green Light New Orleans for years. We are excited to take our collaboration to the next level and combine Entergy's sponsorship support with a big volunteer event that will install most of the CFLs sponsored."

"We are proud to partner with Green Light New Orleans to help spread the message that energy efficiency will help improve all of our customers' lives by providing a financial benefit amid today's tough economic times as well as helping the environment far into the future," said Steven Scheurich, vice president of customer service and external affairs for Entergy Louisiana. "This volunteer effort is about our employees giving back and making a lasting difference in the Jefferson Parish communities where we live and work."

Green Light New Orleans is a local nonprofit organization focused on demonstrating that individual action can create significant change for both the environment and community. Founded in 2006, Green Light New Orleans' free energy-efficient light bulb program has served over 16,600 New Orleans households, enabling residents to save an estimated $17 million in utility costs and reduce their CO2 footprint by 16.5 million pounds. Visit www.greenlightneworleans.org to learn more about Green Light New Orleans and its programs. In the days following the event, an impact map will also be available.
