Whole Foods Market® shoppers can donate to Red Cross

AUSTIN, Texas. (Nov. 5, 2012) - To help fund disaster relief efforts, shoppers can choose to donate to the American Red Cross at the checkout counters of all 339 U.S. Whole Foods Market locations from today through Nov. 15.

To make giving quick and easy, Whole Foods Market has set up one, five and ten dollar donations right at the registers.

"Given the severity of the storm and how many communities have been affected, we wanted to make giving as easy as possible," said Ken Meyer, executive vice-president of operations for Whole Foods Market.  "We're proud of how generous our customers and team members have proven to be in times of need, and we hope that the dollars raised to support relief efforts will help get communities impacted by Sandy back up and running."

All donations made to the Red Cross at Whole Foods Market stores will go directly to the Disaster Relief Fund for the 2012 hurricane season to help the Red Cross prepare for and respond to tropical activity including Superstorm Sandy, and provide services such as food, shelter and emotional support to those impacted across the country.

Due to the storm, more than 80 Whole Foods Market locations were temporarily closed in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and North Atlantic regions. All company team members in the affected areas are safe and accounted for. As of this week, all stores are back up and running, with a couple stores operating with limited hours.

The Red Cross will not receive contact information of those donating at Whole Foods Market.  Should anyone require a receipt from the Red Cross, please call 1-800 RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to donate by phone, or give online at http://www.redcross.org/.
