(NEW ORLEANS, LA - November 7, 2012) - House of Blues New Orleans will continue its Thanksgiving tradition of providing meals to those in need. The historic French Quarter venue, which opened in January 1994, will feed up to 1,200 New Orleanians as part of House of Blues' "Feed the Souls" nationwide campaign. The campaign hopes to serve 20,000 meals across all 12 House of Blues venues during Thanksgiving 2012.
The original House of Blues opened its doors in Harvard Square on Thanksgiving 1992 by feeding the local homeless community before serving concert-goers that evening. This tradition of supporting and giving back to its communities has been a staple of House of Blues' core values for the past two decades.
House of Blues New Orleans staff will begin delivering meals on November 19, 2012. These meals will be dropped to first responders, shelters, and food banks including Grace House, Bridge House, New Orleans Police Department, and New Orleans Fire Department. Transportation for the House of Blues' Thanksgiving Feed the Souls campaign will be provided by Hertz as part of their new sponsorship celebrating the 20th Anniversary of House of Blues.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 22, House of Blues New Orleans will host their annual sit-down Thanksgiving dinner. The venue will open its doors to groups from St. Bernard Project, Covenant House, Crescent House Empowerment, Boys Town, and more. House of Blues staff volunteers will serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, vegetables, rolls and pumpkin pie.
House of Blues New Orleans General Manager Robert Rizzuto noted: "Feeding the needy has been a Thanksgiving Day tradition at House of Blues for many years. Our staff and volunteers feel strongly about giving back to our community and always look forward to serving our guests. We are thankful to be able to provide this small gesture during their time of need."
The House of Blues "Feed the Souls" campaign will also serve as a springboard for House of Blues 20th Anniversary celebrations.
House of Blues' Anniversary Celebration commemorates providing 20 years of music, food, fun, and 20,000+ amazing live music performances across the 12 venues. The 20-month long celebration will commence December 4, 2012 at its renowned Sunset Strip location with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, ZZ Top.
Additionally, a series of 20th Anniversary Tour celebrations sponsored by Citi and Hertz, will travel across House of Blues' twelve venues featuring bands such as Flogging Molly.
