Crescent City Countdown Club to Welcome 2013, New Orleans-Style!

November 20, 2012- With another year of generous community support, our spirited city can welcome 2013 with live New Orleans music, a unique fleur de lis drop, and the midnight fireworks display over the Mighty Mississippi River. Hosted by the City of New Orleans in collaboration with the Crescent City Countdown Club, entertainment begins at 9:00 p.m. on the Decatur Street City Stage in front of Jackson Square with performances to take us up to the midnight countdown.

Join Mayor Mitch Landrieu as we count down to the New Year, and watch as the newly renovated 8-foot tall by 5-foot wide two-dimensional fleur de lis descends a 25-foot pole atop Jax Brewery Condominiums to launch the exquisite Symphony in the Sky. Made of plywood with weather-treated cloth stretched over the frame, the fleur de lis is adorned with aluminum ribbons and LED lights, making it easier to view from both sides.

"While the Crescent City Countdown Club preserves this great New Orleans tradition, it cannot produce it without community support," says Adrienne Thomas, treasurer of the CCCC.

A 6-foot high by 4-foot wide "New Year" board will light up with two hundred 25-watt clear bulbs announcing the official arrival of the new year. The lovable 6-foot tall "Baby New Year," wearing a purple and gold diaper, will again be perched on the corner of the JAX rooftop for all to see. "Born" in 2000, Baby New Year has a styrofoam interior and was found floating in the Barth Brothers' den where he survived Hurricane Katrina. Baby New Year still boasts his Saints helmet, added the year the Saints played in (and won!) the Super Bowl. He will also be flanked by an LSU and a Hornets flag and have other special touchups that showcase the spirit of our city.

Simulcast live on Magic 101.9 FM and WWL AM and FM and WWL.com, the NOLA New Year's Eve celebration will be enjoyed in more than 38 states across the U.S. and on the worldwide web. At the stroke of midnight, the fireworks display will illuminate the sky and be choreographed to soulful New Orleans music. Also included will be the fight songs of our visiting Sugar Bowl teams. As the fight songs play, the sky will light up in the teams' colors!

The Crescent City Countdown Club is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization formed exclusively to preserve and produce New Orleans' traditional New Year's Eve festivities in the French Quarter. "A NOLA New Year's Eve is truly a community effort and a tribute to the big hearts and resilient souls of the people of New Orleans," says CCCC Treasurer Adrienne Thomas. "Without sponsorships from dedicated community businesses, there could be no New Year's Eve celebration here."
