Southern Rep Announces Open Auditions for World Premiere of Freedom by Sean Patterson, Joyce Patterson, David Seelig, Kitty Greenberg

New Orleans - Southern Rep Theatre will be holding open auditions for the world premiere of FREEDOM December 5, 2012 from 6pm-8pm.  FREEDOM will conclude Southern Rep's 26th Lagniappe Season.  Performed at the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans, FREEDOM will run July 10-28, 2013.

This World Premiere tells the story of a Holocaust survivor and an Irish immigrant who meet by chance in the hours before their American naturalization ceremony. Bearing deep wounds from the past, and carrying secrets too painful to tell, they forge a connection and learn they have more similarities than differences. Based in part on survivor testimony, this new American play looks at the many ways we yearn for freedom - not just "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," but also the freedom to face the truth about ourselves with grace, acceptance, and forgiveness.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

For the role of DANNY MCCABE

HE is about 45, but HE has a tense vitality, as though HE has fought and worked his whole life.  HE also has a guardedness that eases when HE realizes that he can be here alone, and when that guard is let down, HE reveals a kind of deep sadness.

For the role of YETTA STRAUS:

[SHE] is about 75 or 76 but seems easily 10 years younger, dignified, dressed in modest, slightly dated clothes.
