New Orleans Auction Galleries Annmoucnes Record-Breaking Sales at its Grand Re-Opening December Auction

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - Dec. 6, 2012 - New Orleans Auction Galleries is proud to announce its most successful auction under new ownership. Notable highlights from the three-day event include an oil on canvas, "Grid Five," by Thomas Downing, which sold for a world record price of $86,100, against an auction estimate of $8,000-$12,000; a Helen M. Turner oil on canvas titled "The Moth" which brought in $92,250; and a rare Chinese scholar's porcelain desk with a Hung Hsien mark which sold for $25,830.

"We could not have been more pleased with the turnout at our grand re-opening celebration and December auction," said Susan D. Krohn, owner and CEO of New Orleans Auction Galleries. "Not only did we have our largest crowd yet, but our guests were enthusiastic and eager to bid on the important objects we were fortunate enough to have for auction. We are particularly appreciative to our special guest Joanne King Herring for making our grand re-opening celebration a festive and memorable affair. We are already looking forward to the many events planned for the coming months."

The auction offered a variety of exceptional antiques, including a massive American 9-tune tall case clock, which brought $29,520 after fierce bidding among floor, internet and phone bidders. Special guest Joanne King Herring, global political activist and international socialite, consigned several unique items from her collection. Other featured property in the auction were the estates of Zoe B. Talbert, Tyler, Texas and James Julius Killough III, Houston, Texas, along with several other local estates and private collections.

New Orleans Auction Galleries, located at 510 Julia Street, is excited to announce their first ever "Bidders, Brunch & Bubbles," a live auction and design event in partnership with Gambit Weekly and bestofneworleans.com, and several local designers.  Please join us for a champagne brunch on Saturday, January 19. The event is open to the public, with brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a live auction starting at 10:00 a.m.  New Orleans Auction Galleries is now accepting consignments for their upcoming February 23-24, 2013 estates auction. The February estates auction is preceded by an exhibition beginning February 13, 2013 with an evening reception and preview party to be held Thursday, February 21st from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  "Having the opportunity to cultivate a business in a city that is so dear to my heart has been a wonderful experience," Krohn said. "The immense success of our first auctions under new ownership has been encouraging."
