DISCOVERIES FURNITURE & FINDS TO OPEN MAGAZINE STREET LOCATION
Louisiana's Largest Direct Import Furniture Retailer Announces the Opening of Its Fourth Location in South Louisiana.
A 5,000 sq. ft warehouse on Magazine Street in New Orleans Uptown area will undergo extensive renovations before the Grand Opening of Discoveries Furniture & Finds on May 1, 2012. This will be the fourth store for Discoveries Furniture & Finds and the second location in New Orleans and will bring an eclectic and exotic, global-style shopping experience to Magazine Street customers.
The property owner has budgeted 400K to renovate the warehouse to Discoveries owners specifications. "It is going to be amazing" says Co-Owner Scott McKearn. "The front will be all glass and will be completely open when weather permits. A modern industrial design theme that we are creating with architect, Richard Albert, will knock your socks off. The raw, industrial space with "great bones" is smack dab in the middle of the hottest pocket on Magazine Street and the building's rustic character and open and inviting design is a perfect fit for Discoveries. There is not a better location in Louisiana for what we do", says McKearn.
Discoveries Furniture & Finds owners, husband and wife, Scott and Cat McKearn, travel regularly to India, Indonesia, China & Morocco to hand pick one-of-a-kinds and to develop their own hand-crafted, solid wood furniture & accessory designs. "By shipping 40' containers worth of furniture & accessories directly from the artisan to our stores, we're able to offer true wholesale prices to our customers", says McKearn.
Scott McKearn, a veteran direct import wholesaler and retailer and Co-Founder of Dauphine Mirror Company, Flambeau Lighting and Habitat Imports, opened the first Discoveries in downtown Hammond with his wife Cat 6 years ago-a 15,000 sq. ft open air warehouse store. A year later they opened a 10,000 sq. ft New Orleans store, located on the edge of the French Quarter on North Rampart St. After years of searching for a non-strip mall like property, with charm and character in Baton Rouge, they added a 7,000 sq. ft location on Highland Road in Highland Village a year and a half ago.
"Business is booming and we are very clear on our expansion plans and this type of space & retail area is what we will secure in other markets. Cities we are considering for 2013/2014 are Jackson, Birmingham, Houston & Nashville", adds McKearn.
