Seven fine New Orleans Hotels create a historic "Battle of New Orleans Package and Dinner" in commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812

New Orleans, December 20, 2012 - The New Orleans Hotel Collection has announced a special package to commemorate the famous "Battle of New Orleans." The Battle of New Orleans was fought just downriver from the city on January 8, 1815 and served to confirm a victory for the United States in the War of 1812.

The Andrew Jackson Premium Overnight Package from the seven fine hotels of the New Orleans Hotel Collection offers guests a step back in time to the period of the battle.   Available on the dates of January 10, 11, 12 and 13, 2013, the three night stay includes:

  • Overnight premium room accommodations for three nights, four days at a choice of the seven hotels of the New Orleans Hotel Collection
  • Town car limo transfers by Limousine Livery to and from New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport, or from Lakefront Airport
  • Daily Breakfast, Wi-Fi, In-room coffee and bottled water, and local phone calls
  • A welcome "period" cocktail from Patrick's Bar Vin as created by Patrick himself
  • A themed in-room amenity
  • A period 5-course themed dinner with wine, and instruction on the battle by General Sir Edward Pakenham, commander of the British Forces in America, and General Andrew Jackson, commander of the American Forces
  • Private Haunted History Walking Tour of the French Quarter from the experts at Grayline Tours, including 1812 highlights
  • Transfers and entry to the reenactment ceremonies on Saturday January 12, including dinner at Meme's Bar and Grille, and followed by a guided Lantern Light Tour of the encampments

Pakenham's Last Supper
Included in the above historic package is a wonderful period dinner attended by reenactors portraying General Sir Edward Pakenham and General Jackson, among others. The period dinner recreates a meal that would have been served at an important function in the early 1800's, with research done by Chef Agnes Bellet, longtime chef of Hotel Mazarin, where the dinner will be held. This five-course candlelight dinner, served with wine, will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 6:30 pm and is open to individual guests at a purchase Price: $129 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuities

Throughout the US, groups are recreating events from the period of the War of 1812 as part of the Bicentennial celebrations. The War of 1812 is often referred to as the "War that Forged a Nation," or "America's Second War of Independence." Bicentennial commemorations and activities will continue through till the Bicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans (January 8, 2015.)
