Free and open to the public
The Collection and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra present Envisioning Louisiana, the seventh installment of Musical Louisiana: America's Cultural Heritage, on Wednesday, January 23. The popular series examines the state's contributions to classical music with a concert and educational programming. In addition, live streaming of the concert-provided by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-will be available at www.lpomusic.org.
This year's program is part of a slate of programming centered on Louisiana's natural history, including THNOC's annual symposium and a new exhibition. Selections for the concert will explore how composers have depicted the state and its people through music, from Europeans' earliest encounters with the strange land to modern musical interpretations.
