New Dukes of Dixieland and Luther Kent Duo - Super Bowl @ Mardi Gras 2013 Album to be Released Thursday, January 31, 2013
New Orleans (January 21, 2013) - New Orleans-based DUKES of Dixieland and Luther Kent are pleased to announce the release of their collaborative album - Super Bowl @ Mardi Gras 2013 - on Thursday, January 31, 2013. Super Bowl @ Mardi Gras 2013 celebrates the fusion of what many consider the world's largest party with the world's largest football game of the year 2013.
Featuring Mardi Gras favorites "Carnival Time," "Hey Pocky Way" and "All On A Mardi Gras Day," Super Bowl @ Mardi Gras 2013 is the most recent compilation piece produced by the DUKES of Dixieland and Kent. The compilation highlights the DUKES of Dixieland's big band feel with sultry horn solos and Kent's iconic voice.
"Just as Super Bowl @ Mardi Gras 2013 celebrates the collision of the two biggest parties of 2013, it also celebrates the innovation of two of the big players in the New Orleans music scene - the DUKES of Dixieland and Luther Kent," said John Shoup, who for the past 39 years has managed the New Orleans-based DUKES of Dixieland.
Fondly known by locals as the Steamboat NATCHEZ's nightly jazz band, the Dukes of Dixieland are
recognized nationally as "world class musicians, unpretentiously enjoying what they do very well" (Boston
Pops, 2011). With a vast repertoire of reviews and accolades, and an enviable demand for their music, in the past year the Dukes have performed five concerts with the Boston Pops, a series of concerts at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, a dozen concerts throughout Florida and numerous jazz festivals, including French Quarter Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the I Love Jazz Festival tour in Brazil. The DUKES of Dixieland most recently released When Country Meets Dixie with The Oak Ridge Boys in 2011.
Blues singer and local New Orleanian, Luther Kent began his professional singing career at age 14. Kent made his name as lead singer for both C.C. Riders and Blood, Sweat & Tears before launching his solo career and forming his own band Trick Bag. Kent has been inducted into both the Louisiana Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame.
