13th Annual “Got Gumbo?” Cook-Off Benefits a “Gumbo” of Services to the Community

Who:               United Way of Southeast Louisiana, sponsored by the Royal Sonesta Hotel and Shell Oil Company

What:              The 13th Annual “Got Gumbo?” Cook-off featuring mouth-watering gumbos and desserts from New Orleans’ top chefs and first-rate restaurants!  All event proceeds benefit United Way’s “gumbo” of services to the community.

Where:            Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans
                        Grand Ballroom
300 Bourbon Street

When:             Thursday, March 7, 2013
5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Why:               United Way funds 136 programs at 80 local agencies, which work to strengthen youth and children, the elderly, families and individuals from all walks of life.  Our goal is to create long lasting changes that prevent problems from happening.

We’ve invited the city’s most talented chefs and first-rate restaurants to put their dishes up against the competition in our annual parade of gumbo.  Our Krewe de Gumbo panel of celebrity judges will present awards for Best Traditional Gumbo, Best Exotic Gumbo and Best Seafood Gumbo.  We’re also giving the power to the people, who will vote for the People’s Choice awards of Best Gumbo, Best Dessert, and Best “Float” Table Decorations.  Enjoy your heart’s content of the city’s best gumbos, live entertainment from Rick Trolsen and the New Orleans Po’boys and if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be raffling off great prizes to further benefit the programs of United Way!

While the competition is all in good fun, the cause is serious.  To put it simply, United Way supports the programs that support our community.

Participating restaurants include: 5 Fifty 5 New Orleans Marriott, Bistreaux at the Bank, Charlie’s Restaurant, Chef Raymond Signal, Desire Oyster Bar, Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, Hyatt Regency New Orleans, JW Marriott Hotel, Mahoney’s Po-Boy Shop, Mr. Poor Boy Restaurant, Restaurant R’evolution, The Rib Room at the Omni Royal Orleans, Tulane University Dining, The Westin New Orleans Canal Place, Wolfe’s at the New Orleans Downtown Marriott Convention Center ... and more!

Tickets are available for $25 in advance at www.unitedwaysela.org through Wednesday, March 6th, or $30 at the door.
