REDD LINEN NIGHT

A Visual Arts Fundraiser with a Twist

Saturday, February 23, 2013 | 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Ashé Cultural Arts Center (Ashé) is thrilled to present its second annual Redd Linen Night, a fundraiser.  The event takes place on Saturday, February 23, 2013, from 6-10 p.m., at 1724 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in New Orleans.   Named for Ashé’s cofounder, Douglas Redd (1947-2007), Redd Linen Night is a celebration of his visual artistry.  His work has been described as the pivotal graphic influence for many of the African, African American and Caribbean programs and events held in New Orleans, as far back as the 1970s.

The show features prominent and emerging artists, some who were mentees, contemporaries or protégés of Redd.  This affair, which is more than just an art exhibit, will pair stunning live, performances with amazing art pieces.

Redd Linen Night will feature Redd’s work and that of artists Gus Bennett, Eric Waters, Lidya Araya, Dr. Foots, Cfreedom, Tevis Jones, Big Chief Darryl Montana, Karel Sloane Boekbinder, Sheila Phipps, Sandra Blakely, Ayo Scott, Shakor, Victor G. Robinson and Wanda Wiggins and students from the Kuumba Institute

Performing artists who will be paired with select art pieces are Troi Bechet, Gailynn Edgerson, Don Lewis, Stephanie McKee, John O'Neal, Valentine Pierce, Asia Rainey, Roscoe Reddix, Mona Lisa Saloy, and Chris Williams.

Select artwork will be for sale at the event.

Ticket prices:    General admission - $20 in advance, $25 at the door.  Students 12 and under, $10.  Tickets are available at Ashé Cultural Arts Center or online.
