Prominent Louisiana Chef to Bring Fresh Perspective to Renowned Sazerac Restaurant

NEW ORLEANS - February 5, 2013 - The Roosevelt New Orleans has hired Southeast Louisiana native Justin Ferguson, one of the city's most-watched chefs, as chef de cuisine for the hotel's legendary Sazerac Restaurant. Ferguson will join the hotel's Executive Chef, Stefan Kauth to build on the restaurant's reputation for fine dining.

Ferguson is bringing years of culinary experience to the dynamic food and beverage team at The Roosevelt, where he is using his interest in French, Italian, Creole and charcuterie to offer guests an exceptional dining experience. Ferguson also will help launch a new concept for the Sazerac Restaurant, to be unveiled in late fall 2013.

A Baton Rouge native, he discovered his love of cooking in the most unlikely of places: during a stint in the Army as a reconnaissance scout in the 2nd Battalion of the 6th Infantry. While stationed abroad, Ferguson developed a passion for experiencing a wide variety of cuisines-an experience that ultimately paved the way for his career. He later enrolled in the Louisiana Culinary Institute, where he began to develop his own style.

"I'm enjoying the opportunity to share my diverse culinary background and love of local cuisine and fresh Gulf Coast seafood with the talented team at The Roosevelt," Ferguson said. "It's an honor to be associated with such a legendary institution in one of the world's greatest culinary destinations."

Prior to joining The Roosevelt, Ferguson served as the inaugural executive chef for Superior Seafood in uptown New Orleans. He also has served as executive chef for Capital City Grill and Stroubes Chophouse, both in Baton Rouge.

Ferguson has received a number of notable accolades throughout his culinary career, including the title of "Top Chef" by Southern Breeze Magazine. Most recently, he was named a 2010 "Chef to Watch" and award-winner by Louisiana Cookin' magazine.
