The Second Annual 'NOLA Girl Jam' Honors Ladies of Jazz Music and Dance
Party with, learn from, and dance to the cream of the Crescent City
Join the ladies of Nola Girl Jam 2013, Friday, March 1st to Sunday, March 3rd, as they transport you to a time of chorus girls, bawdy vocalists, and intoxicating hot jazz and dance, all to celebrate the artistic achievements of women in jazz history.
Working in conjunction with the Old US Mint and The New Orleans Jazz Historical National Park, Girl Jam will be hosting FREE classes, concerts, and presentations during the day on Saturday and Sunday: Visitors can learn how to be in a 1930's chorus line, flap a 1920's Charleston, study movement with a NOLA Burlesque dancer, and listen to the sweet sounds of Aurora Nealand's Royal Roses.
TWO NIGHTS of themed parties featuring live hot jazz led by Frenchmen Street's Ben Polcer - and showcasing the Muses of Girl Jam: Miss Sophie Lee, Debbie Davis, Margie Perez, Marla Dixon, Sarah Peterson, Sasha Masakowski, The Pfister Sisters, and Kristina Morales - will be accompanied by cocktails, costume contests, old timey photo stalls, vintage clothing booths, nails by Savage Beauty, old-fashioned dance battles, and chorus girl troupes from around the country.
New Orleans loves dressing up! Friday evening at 8pm on March 1st kicks the weekend off with costume-encouraged WELCOME TO THE JAZZ AGE, followed by RETURN TO STORYVILLE at 8pm on Saturday March 2nd.
And there will be an all girl jazz band on Sunday, March 3rd, sponsored by Three Muses.
