5:30 P.M. Screening of 1970 Jazz Fest Movies Added for April 25th

Presented by Friends of the Cabildo/New Orleans Film Society

Join the Friends of the Cabildo and the New Orleans Film Society as the Louisiana State Museum's collection of seven different 16mm film reels from the first Jazz Fest will be shown at the Old U.S. Mint 3rd Floor Performance Space Thursday April 25th at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Dr. Charles Chamberlain, will moderate the event as well as the Band-In-A-Pocket Jazz Trio will be performing in sections that do not have sound.

Don Perry, one of the founders of the New Orleans Jazz Club and a former WDSU cameraman filmed the first festival in 1970 and donated the reels in 1978 to the Louisiana State Museum (LSM). The LSM digitized the films in 2012 allowing them to be preserved for generations of Jazz Fest and music fans. The seven separate films show artists such as Duke Ellington, Pete Fountain, Danny Barker and Mahalia Jackson.

The 1970 Jazz Fest Movies will be screened at the Old U.S. Mint at 5:30 p.m. and  7 p.m., Thursday April 25th. Tickets are a donation to the Friends of the Cabildo/New Orleans Film Society at a cost of $10 and $7.50 for Friends of the Cabildo/Louisiana Museum Foundation/New Orleans Film Society Members. There will be a cash bar for drinks and reservations are limited.

To reserve your space, please contact Kaydee Nenninger at the Friends of the Cabildo Office (504) 523-3939. More information can be accessed at www.friendsofthecabildo.org and www.neworleansfilmsociety.org
