New Orleans Marriott/5 Fifty 5 Welcomes Chef Thorsten Leighty into the Kitchen

German Chef to bring fresh ideas and talents into the hotel & restaurant

New Orleans - Thorsten Leighty has been named Executive Chef of the New Orleans Marriott and its award-winning in-house restaurant - 5 Fifty 5.

Leighty is a native of Wiesbaden, Germany, where he received classical training in all aspects of international cuisine. Most recently, Leighty served as Executive Chef at the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach, where he successfully managed seven food and beverage outlets that generated $23 million in revenue and catered to top-notch events hosted by Eva Longoria and Pitbull. Under Leighty's tutelage, Eden Roc instituted a Kosher Kitchen in the new tower, segregated from the general catering kitchen and designed a specialized kosher menu. With food scores at the top of the company, Leighty has greatly contributed to the accolades acquired by the resort's food & beverage operations.

Leighty spent the first ten years of his career gaining a breadth of experience in various roles at Michelin-starred restaurants abroad, including Restaurant Cheesery in Gstaad, Switzerland, Hotel Schweitzer Stuben in Wertheim, Germany, Hotel Koenigshof in Munich, Germany and Im Schiffchen Restaurant in Duesseldorf, Germany.

After cultivating his career in Europe, Leighty headed to the United States at age 25 to work as a sous chef under German Master Chef Joachim Splichal at the highly acclaimed Patina in Los Angeles. Following his work at Patina, Leighty served as the Executive Sous Chef at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, where he catered to Hollywood's elite at the Academy Awards and private parties for stars such as Tom Hanks and Bill Clinton.

Following his time in Los Angeles, Leighty relocated to Tuscon, Arizona where he served as the Executive Sous Chef at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa. In this role, he created and implemented menus for six food and beverage outlets and served celebrities such as the Dalai Lama and Gene Hackman. Leighty then earned the position as the Executive Chef of the JW Marriot Ihilani Resort & Spa in Kapolei, Hawaii, managing the eight food & beverage outlets of the Four Diamond property.
