Second Line Parades Throughout the Event Feature The Undefeated Divas and Gents Social Aid and Pleasure Club and New Skool Brass Band

New Orleans, April 15, 2013-The People United for Armstrong Park (PUfAP) is thrilled to present the second free show of the 2013 spring season of Jazz in the Park, which brings Glen David Andrews and Shannon Powell's All-Star Band to the stage on April 25th.  All the shows in the series are completely free, and have grown to include second lines through Armstrong Park and Treme provided by The New Skool Brass Band and The Undefeated Divas and Gents Social Aid and Pleasure Club.

The event itself opens at 3PM, with the first second line of the day.  The Marketplace at Armstrong Park, produced in cooperation with The Institute of Community Development (www.icdnola.org), also opens to the public at 3PM.  Fresh and prepared foods, as well as locally made crafts, are available for purchase, with the additional convenience of a grocery valet so patrons may shop and enjoy the music at the same time.  The gastronomic delights of some of New Orleans' best food trucks round out the menu options.

Shannon Powell's All-Star Band goes on at 5PM, with headliner Glen David Andrews takes the stage at 6:30PM.  During the intermission, there will be a second line parade through the park.

The Undefeated Divas and Gents Social Aid and Pleasure Club was formally established in 2001 by CEO and Founder Antoinette Devezin and Darlene Paul under a slightly different moniker, The Undefeated Divas and Kids.  The club was created in response to Antoinette's personal experiences encountering people in need, particularly mothers and children, on the streets of New Orleans.  She and Darlene believed they could pool their talent and subsequent resources, along with those of other socially aware and concerned neighbors and friends, and make a difference in the lives of all New Orleanians.  The Undefeated Divas and Kids performed their first parade in late 2002, and merged with The Undefeated Gents in 2005, a club headed up by Kevin "2 Low" Devezin, Antoinette's husband.

Katrina scattered the group's members all over the country, but Antoinette was determined to continue the good work they'd accomplished up to that point, and got the Undefeated Divas and Gents back on the streets of New Orleans for the first second line after the storm.

"We have given ourselves the task of carrying on New Orleans history and culture through entertainment and education," says Antoinette.  "Being a part of that legacy is very meaningful to me and everyone in the Undefeated Divas and Gents."

The club is known for assisting others, their elaborate costumes and designs, and original take on performance.  They have made appearances at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, The Satchmo Summerfest, Super Sunday, Harrah's Casino, Jazzland/Six Flags New Orleans, and countless funerals and parties.  Now they will bring their distinctive style and ebullience to Jazz in the Park for the entirety of the spring season.

"Jazz in the Park has had such a positive impact on our city," says Antoinette.  "It's keeping jazz, and most of all, Armstrong Park-alive."

The People United for Armstrong Park's Treme Night takes place after the show, with a second line featuring New Skool and The Undefeated Divas and Gents leading out of Armstrong Park to the Candlelight Lounge, at 925 N. Robertson Street.  The after party at the Candlelight runs the duration of the concert series, from 4/18 to 6/06.  A five-dollar suggested donation at the door goes towards funding the Jazz in the Park concert series, specifically for the music.

A kids' craft and play area is available to offer enrichment activities and fun while families attend the Jazz in the Park shows.  There is a spacewalk, and a face-painting artist also will be on hand.

Primary sponsorship for the series is provided by The NOLA Brewing Company.  Jazz in the Park is also generously supported by The American Music Research Foundation, The City of New Orleans, Bernard Productions, C&G Construction, OffBeat, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Old New Orleans Louisiana Rum, WWOZ, and Fleurty Girl.
