Guide to the Tales of the Cocktail Festival

Drink it in! That's the theme for this year's Tales of the Cocktails event. Cocktails, spirits, liquors and apertifs are the headliners of this mixology festival focusing on the knowledge and traditions of the cocktail, bartending and anything involving a drink.

The five-day event, held July 17-21, will feature a series of seminars, bartender competitions, "spirited" luncheons and dinners, free events and invitation-only events. Tasting rooms will have popular and up-and-coming liquor brands giving out samples of their latest concoctions while more than 80 liquor specialists will be speaking on panels and hosting the event's seminars.

Don't miss the award ceremony for the sixteen different "Spirited Awards" representing the best in categories like "Best American Cocktail Bar," "World's Best Cocktail Menu" and  "American Bartender of the Year."

Spirited Dinner® Series
On Thursday night, pick from more than 30 local New Orleans restaurants (throughout the French Quarter) that will be participating in the themed dinners. This Bitter Earth dinner will allow guests to explore the earthy flavors present in the rich craft cocktails perfectly paired with savory, herbed dishes from Root restaurant or dive into the battle of gin vs. whiskey at the Beauty vs. the Beast dinner hosted at Windsor Court. View the full list of Spirited Dinners.

Tasting Rooms

Entrance to the tasting rooms (enticing and packed with libations) is free of charge with a purchase of any ticket.  From dry vermouth to whiskey, cocktail lovers will find their favorite flavors while discovering something new. View the full list of liquor vendors.

Complimentary Events

Many of the seminars' speakers have passed on the knowledge and tradition of their liquid passions with their own books. So head to the Tales of the Cocktail's bookstore to snatch up some new reading material. Listen in on a live broadcast with New Orleans' own Eric Asher as he interviews the event's biggest bar stars. Or attend the entertaining demos and banter of the Dynamic Duo of Delicious, Chef and the Fatman as they trade secrets to great food and drink with chefs and master mixologists during the festival. View the full list of events.

Where to Stay?

Hotel Monteleone is the main location for many of the events while the Royal Sonesta will also stage an array of the festival's events. Also view a full list of hotel partners.
