New Aviation Board Chairman Named

First Woman Board Chair at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - The New Orleans Aviation Board elected Ms. Cheryl Teamer as the Chair at its monthly meeting today. Ms. Teamer is the first female Chair of the Aviation Board and replaces outgoing Chair Nolan V. Rollins, who accepted a position as the seventh President & CEO of the Los Angeles Affiliate of the National Urban League after leading the Urban League of Greater New Orleans for the past five years.

Ms. Teamer, a New Orleans native, was appointed by Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu to the Aviation Board on January 19, 2012. She is an attorney with more than twenty years of experience and is the founder of Teamer Strategy Group, focusing on advocacy, business development, event coordination, government relations, project management and strategic planning.

Ms. Teamer is a strong proponent of public service and is active in a variety of civic and charitable organizations.  She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, The Young Audiences Charter School Association, and Second Harvest Food Bank.  Teamer has served on a variety of boards during her career, including the Chamber of Commerce for New Orleans and the River Region, Audubon Institute, Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation, Young Audiences of Louisiana, Congressional Black Caucus Corporate Advisory Board, Ursuline Academy Alumnae Association, Louisiana Mental Health Association, Louisiana Make A Wish Foundation and First Grace Community Alliance. Ms. Teamer is an active member of the New Orleans Chapter of the Links, Incorporated and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Greater New Orleans.

Mr. Doug Thornton will continue to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board.

Members of the Aviation Board are appointed to five (5) year terms and serve without compensation.  Officers are elected annually by their peers.

"I again want to thank Nolan Rollins for his outstanding service on the Aviation Board," said Mayor Landrieu. "I congratulate Cheryl Teamer on her election and am confident that under her leadership, the Board will continue to improve upon the reforms and improvements made at the airport the last several years.  As Chair, Ms. Teamer will also help guide the development of our new airport terminal, one of the most important projects for the future of our region."
