The Roosevelt New Orleans to Celebrate 64th Anniversary
of "Stormin' of the Sazerac" September 27

Blue Room Luncheon, Fashion Show and Contest, Swing Music and More
Also Celebrate Sazerac Bar's 75th Year

NEW ORLEANS - August 8, 2013 - The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, will pay tribute to the women of New Orleans and their legendary influence when it marks the 64th anniversary of the historic 1949 "Stormin' of the Sazerac" on Friday, September 27th, complete with swing music, a Blue Room luncheon and more.

The re-creation marks the occasion when women, normally admitted to the world-famous Sazerac Bar only on Mardi Gras, stormed the popular gathering place. Wearing the hats, veils, peep-toe shoes and gloves popular in post-war New Orleans - accompanied by determination and pride - they changed the Sazerac Bar forever, finally enjoying the revered Sazerac cocktail and other cocktails that previously only men could sip there.

The event, which also marks the Sazerac Bar's 75th year, kicks off at 1 p.m. in the Blue Room with a three-course, ladies-only meal, along with the sound of the Jayna Morgan Jazz Trio. All attendees and "Stormin' of the Sazerac" fans are encouraged to show off their ‘40s-style wardrobe, whether original, borrowed or newly created.

During the luncheon, ladies may participate in a juried fashion show and contest featuring mid-century style. They also may enjoy ‘40s-style lip make-overs and samples from the Guerlain Spa and then take part in a New Orleans second-line parade from the Blue Room to the Sazerac Bar. The first-place winner of the contest will receive a one-night stay at The Roosevelt New Orleans; second place, the Sazerac Gift Set from the hotel's Emporium Gift Shop; and third place, a gift certificate for a treatment at the Guerlain Spa.

The ladies luncheon also will feature:

  • The hotel's Emporium Gift Shop collection of 1940s jewelry.
  • Vintage fashion and accessories from Retro Active Vintage.
  • A pre-sale period of hats from Les Dame Chapeaux from noon to 1 p.m. in the lobby of the hotel.
  • ‘40s-style lip make-overs and samples from the Guerlain Spa.
  • A fashion show and contest.

Following the luncheon, the event will continue in the Sazerac Bar. All attendees are invited and encouraged to wear 1940s costumes.

Reservations for the luncheon, priced at $35, non-inclusive of tax and gratuity, can be made beginning August 7th by calling +1 504 648 5486. Complimentary valet parking is available for those who dine in the Blue Room.
