The 5th Annual New Orleans Swing Dance Festival
Featuring The 12th Annual Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown

An international celebration of jazz music and jazz dances!
Friday, October 4th - Monday, October 7th

NEW ORLEANS, LA---Swing dancers and jazz fans from around the globe will gather in New Orleans on Friday, Oct 4th through Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 as they transport you to a time when swing was king and everybody danced.

Honoring the timeless marriage between jazz dance and live music, this unique festival includes community dance lessons, dance competitions done to live music, outdoor concerts with local bands, a second line parade, after parties and more. The event kicks off the evening of Thursday Oct 3rd with The New Orleans Vintage Fashion & Lifestyle Expo held at The Old US Mint.

Afternoon Events: Working in conjunction with The French Market, the New Orleans Swing Dance Festival host free outdoor concerts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. "The French Market Stomp" will feature live local dance bands, an outdoor dance floor, and exciting swing dance shows. Afternoon concerts include The Smoking Time Jazz Club (Friday), Ben Polcer's Showdown All Stars (Saturday), and The Russell Welch Quartet (Gypsy Jazz) (Sunday).

On Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, from Noon to 1pm at The French Market, there will be FREE Beginning Swing Dance Lessons sponsored by The Nola Jitterbugs.

Evening Events: The Friday Evening Dance takes place at The Scottish Rite Temple with live music by The Tomcats and The Shotgun Jazz Band. The Saturday Evening Dance is at Generations Hall with music by Ben Polcer's Showdown All-Star Band featuring Miss Sophie Lee, The Pfister Sisters, and Meschiya Lake. Sunday's Evening Dance is also at Generations Hall with Meschiya Lake & The Lil Big Horns. Each of these parties will also showcase the world's most exciting and talented swing dancers from across the globe, battling it out for cash prizes and bragging rights.

The official NOLA Swing Dance Festival after party takes place on Sunday Oct 6th after the Generations Hall event starting at 1a.m. at Maison Frenchmen. Music is by 7inch Soul Party, a local, all vinyl dance party spinning vintage R&B, Soul, & Funk records until the sun comes up.    

Closing Event: To end the festivities, dancers trade in their dance shoes for sneakers for the highly anticipated Musician vs. Dancers Baseball Game at St Roch Field on Monday at 3pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Admission: Afternoon events are free to attend. Weekend package tickets to the evening events are sold online on a sliding price scale. A la carte evening event tickets can be purchased at the door for $60 each.

First Annual New Orleans Vintage Fashion & Lifestyle Expo

Thursday, October 3rd 7pm-12am

NEW ORLEANS, LA---An evening of roots music, retro and vintage-inspired fashion shows, vintage cars, vendors of old timey wares, men's & women's vintage clothing, hats, jewelry, accessories and collectibles, historical talks, Chorus Girl showcases, and live music entertainment by Tuba Skinny to finish it all off: We are thrilled to present the first ever gathering of vintage enthusiasts and collectors in New Orleans.

Kicking things off with a leisurely 'Vintage' Bike Ride through the Quarter at 6pm, guests are encouraged to dress in vintage clothing and ride from Louis Armstrong Park to their final destination at the Old US Mint.

Starting at 7pm, guests will pose for photographs in front of war era cars, peruse local vintage vendors' booths, sip on free cocktails until 8pm, and enjoy fashion shows and demonstrations on vintage beauty and etiquette.

So put on your favorite old duds or vintage-inspired threads, buy some if you don't have 'em, dance all night, and find yourself transported to the past!

This night marks the pre-party of the weekend-long New Orleans Swing Dance Festival and Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown. (www.lindyshowdown.net)

Admission: $15 for the next 50 tickets sold, $20 for the next 50, and $25 at the door. VIP tickets/front row seats to all fashion shows are available on the website for $50.
