Piano professor's inaugural performance devoted to Chopin

LOYOLA PRESS RELEASE - September 24, 2013

Brian Hsu, D.M.A., Loyola University New Orleans' new assistant professor of piano performance, will take to the stage Thursday, Oct. 10 for his inaugural recital in the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola's main campus.

The event is free, open to the public and will take place at 7:30 p.m. The program is devoted to the works of Polish composer and pianist Frédéric Chopin, specifically the ballades and scherzos.

Prior to joining Loyola's faculty this fall, Hsu taught at the University of Michigan, Yale University and the Juilliard School. He holds a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Michigan, where one of his primary instructors was Logan Skelton '83, a distinguished alumnus from Loyola's College of Music and Fine Arts. Hsu received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School, as well as an Artist Diploma from Yale University, where he studied with the world-famous pianist Peter Frankl.

Since his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra as a teenager, Hsu has established himself as a gifted pianist and experienced performer, appearing on stages throughout the world and winning the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the Philadelphia Orchestra Concerto Competition, among others. His most recent CD, with the Pro Arte Quartet, is set for release this year.
